A type of imposter syndrome called the expert
Knowledge is important but what happens when we place our worth on it? What happens when we place our worth on being the first to know about breakthrough knowledge in our chosen career?
Some people do live like that. There is an idea that they have to be at the forefront of every breakthrough information in their career.
That hunt for knowledge is good but it gets worse when we place our self-worth in the things we think we should know when it comes to our career.
There’s a type of imposter syndrome called the expert and this type of imposter syndrome is characterized by a belief that they must know everything about their field or profession.
These people tend to feel like they are not good enough when they don’t have all the answers relating to their feed.
The idea that they have created around themselves as being the expert further makes it difficult for them to seek help when it is needed. Help is seen as looking like a fraud to fellow colleagues.
The expert wants to be an expert to himself and his colleagues. He or she desires to be just that and creates this unrealistic standards and expectations to meet up to whatever it takes to be an expert.
But rather than this mindset favoring them in the workplace it isolates them. There is no feeling of collaboration in the things they do, they lack corporation among colleagues and are selfish with the information they possess
When they lack information it is hard to ask for help or get it from a colleague. They rather stay silent about their office issues and feel like they are not enough.
The expert, rather than seeing themselves as someone who should be at the forefront of every breakthrough in their field, should learn to embrace collaboration among colleagues.
By working on collaboration we unconsciously work on our insecurity. To choose to hoard information, to choose to be at the forefront of breakthrough information sometimes isn’t coming from a positive mental state.
Our insecurities are a major drive to this way of living. This is the reason why the expert desire to know everything and be at the forefront of career breakthrough information. It is a way to quench that feeling of never being enough.
