Filling a void by overworking gets you in trouble
How often do we as individuals interpret overworking ourselves as being competent? How often do we have to work hard to be recognized?
There is a certain type of insecurity and doubt that surrounds and leads us to fill a void by overworking. Thinking if we can do more, the people around us can see how useful we are.
This mindset pushes many people into overdrive and overworking and they can’t even see themselves trying so hard to be recognized.
Imposter syndrome is the root cause of this problem. Within this person lies so many defeating emotions dictating their choices.
With the idea of feeling undeserving, incompetent, and sometimes a fraud they tend to question themselves if they are truly doing enough to help in the organization’s bigger goals.
They feel their contribution isn’t enough, they think they are not doing anything right and should put in more effort to kill the negative emotions that taunt them.
With the way of life they have chosen for themselves, a way of life that comes from the fear and self-doubt they harbor they start seeing rest as something of guilt. They feel guilty any time they decide to take a rest.
They find joy or at least an escape from their mindset when they indulge in overworking and being all over the place.
One thing they fail to realize is that this approach doesn’t benefit them or get them the result they seek.
To be competent and worthwhile contribute something real and rare in the organization. Anything natural and rare can only come from you.
To get to that place you must be careful with the things you give your time. Being all over the site is being nowhere. Attending to everything and overworking yourself isn’t being direct and productive.
Learn to work on your strength, sharpen them and provide them where needed in the organization.
Remember, it is about providing them where it is needed, doing things that are direct and important, and capitalizing heavily on your strength.
Also, remember that rest is a requirement and it is needed to do your best work. Learn to embrace rest and never feel guilty for having it.
