Steal my songwriting formula and apply it anywhere.
As a professional songwriter, there’s a formula I use in writing and making songs which makes it easy every time I sit in front of a piano to compose.
I call this concept the triple C which goes for concept context and content. This might not be new in the music and creative scene but I want to talk about how writers can remove themselves or save themselves from writers and mental block with this formula.
For someone who is writing 3 to 4 songs a day you have exhausted your idea bank but who needs idea banks when we can tell 1 story in a thousand ways through the triple C formula?
Music is different because you don’t just start to hit your computer keyboard and find your way around words that make an article or post. With music, you need to start with a melody. The melody must be there and when you find the melody you think of the concept.
The concept tells you what direction the song will take. Is it starting with a verse or you did prefer a hook first then the chorus follows? Remember the melody must direct the concept and without the melody you might be lost in the concept.
When you find the melody and know what step your concept must take the next step is to find the context. What is the context of the song? The meaning behind the melody. Without knowing your context it will be difficult writing your content.
Most artists and musicians who are not aware of this struggle to write great songs or even write remarkable lyrics. They are blind to the context of their message, blind to the context of their melody.
When you have the context then you can go write the content. This is the final step of making a song.
For writing, whether creative or informative this step still matters and plays a huge role in how you craft a long-form post or article.
You ask yourself what concept your writing should take, find the context, like who the message is for and why it should be for them, and then plan your content around that information.
You will find yourself being clear about the things you create once you start understanding this step of creation.
