The natural genius: A type of imposter syndrome
Smart people suffering from imposter syndrome fall for the trap of having and getting everything easily
These people have a characteristic of feeling like success should come easily and without effort. It is with this mindset many end up not getting results.
Since they have a high level of intelligence or talent in a particular area they feel that should be an advantage and serve as a replacement for hard work.
Though these beliefs might be true depending on their abilities, it doesn’t serve them well in reality, especially when they meet obstacles and challenges on their way to accomplish a goal or project.
This type of imposter syndrome is called the natural genius who believes just like stated before that success should come easily and without any effort.
The natural genius even with incredible talents and intelligence still finds it difficult to get things done because their expectations of themselves don’t match up with reality
The reason for this is their underestimation of life and its reality, expecting everything to come quickly. Even with such high intelligence they still struggle when faced with setbacks and challenges.
In their belief of being perfect, they tend not to ask for help when stuck. They are seeing help as a way that their vulnerabilities to get exposed to people and have them look like a fraud.
The natural genius can stop getting frustrated at challenges and setbacks he or she meets on the road by having realistic expectations of themselves and their abilities.
Recognize that without hindrances in the things that they desire it won’t matter anyway and they can learn to use the opportunities that challenges bring to sharpen their strength and grow.
They have to start seeing their job as an avenue to develop their skills and who they think they can be. By seeing their talent that way they remove themselves from trying to impress people or change people’s narrative about their talent.
Secondly, They can start being comfortable about seeking help when they are stuck. Seeking help doesn’t mean being or looking like a fraud.
