We live in a heavily opinionated world. A world where everyone feels like they can be good at something by just saying it.

Opinions are easy and cheap, why we have a lot of them in society. People trying to tell us the things we should do and how we could have done it better.

Everyone seems to know how the other person is supposed to live and everyone seems to know the best path to that pursuit.

As writers and creatives, we see this every day and experience it in real time. People come with their opinions and dislikes. Comment and encouragement. Propositions and demand.

Sometimes it can be draining and sometimes writers go as far as letting it affect and define how they choose to create.

A lot of writers fear opinions and allow them to stop them from truly expressing who they are and what they feel. They even allow these opinions to stop them from publishing.

Writers fail to understand that writers who don’t get opinions on their work or feedback fail to grow.

Seeking this opinion should be your main goal. Not getting lost in them should be the thing you focus on.

Not all opinion is going to be beneficial to you and that is why you need to develop discernment as a writer. To know what you can use and know what you can ignore.

Opinions should be that rock people throw at you so you can build mansions with them. They should give you insight into the minds of men, what they need, and how they see things.

Opinions and feedback are like an arsenal you can take to analyze how you are doing in your writing.

It takes you out of your world and puts you into the world of the next man. You see things from their perspective and know how you can approach your writing. This doesn’t mean changing your writing or concept with every opinion you have though.

It is a simple way to progress and see things objectively. As writers, we are rarely objective with our take, the reason we need feedback and opinions to grow.
