What’s your story and what’s the connection you share

My dad has this thing of never patronizing businesses and restaurants with no soul.

For a very long time, I didn’t understand the meaning behind it and why he would drive past fancy restaurants only to go eat at one that feels homely

Homely is the keyword here. Everywhere he walks in he is greeted by a person in charge and not just in charge but the owner of this business or restaurant

He would shake hands with them, they would talk about business and life and politics and then we would sit down and get served like Kings

He created connections and intimacy and these businesses reciprocated that feeling back to him. It was like he was patronizing family and family only.

Looking back today I realized he was patronizing only family. It might not be his family but he was patronizing businesses that had a soul and meaning to it. Businesses that have a connection, human connection. Someone he can shake his or her hand and have a conversation with.

I wouldn’t say he had a problem with big corporations or businesses run by someone with a face but he just patronized people he understood and knew where to find them.

The restaurants he visited always had this cozy and lovely feeling to it, like family-owned with recipes going for generations.

Today I have picked up on that habit and I have found how it strengthens my relationship with people. I have learned to go deep not wide.

While doing that I have also come to realize how it can be applied to online writing and businesses.

There’s a popular saying that people only buy from people but to take it further people only buy from people that share a common belief with them.

We now live in a world where identity is a strong thing and people are running to those that share something with them and those that they have something in common with.

There’s never been a time when your story needs to be seen. You need to tell your story and tell it in a way where people you share something in common with can understand you.

You need to start creating a feeling that looks and feels like home in your brand message and writing and learn to make that message drive home.
